what to do when jeremy lin isn’t playing
rachel and i visited the museum of contemporary art today in la jolla. the experience was completely free compliments of qualcomm, some student ids, and our seemingly never aging 14 year looking faces. i wonder at what point this little game will fail? we passed through to the ocean and walked down to the sand. there we witnessed some sea lions just wiggling like gigantic caterpillars and hanging out. the day ended with a rock wall which had some bright green moss growing on it. over and out.

some things never change…
it might seem like i quit working on this blog. but after a LONG season of grad school, work, and a small vacation i finally have something worth showing. since my last post (when was that?) i’ve taken a liking to foosball. i think what originally started a small competition on the weekend has developed into a full fledged friends and drinking past time whenever I go out. shuffleboard is another hit. in this post i’m going to divide my pictures into two categories based on my trips. i’ll try and comment on some of the more interesting ones, but they’re uploaded in no particular order because i like to keep things random.
San Francisco: home of swan oyster depot…and other things

all this needs is a zidane headbutt expression.

New York: the most densely populated major city in the united states

apparently everyone in china town knows the entire lay out of china town pretty well. this for example, is a popular location for many movie scenes…probably because it looks the most chinese.

i’m not quite sure how you park your taxi like this but it was enough to stop people in their tracks.

no this isn’t the land before time.

it’s truly amazing how quickly we can rebuild from the ash and rubble to something as stunning as this.

oh look a picture of me

fake. ?what if someone knocked it over?

the focus here isn’t the oversized apple logo. it’s the plaza hotel lurking in the background from home alone when kevin gets lost sleeps in a $1000/night hotel and gets chased by pigeons in new york.

the wine of temecula
one of the unique aspects about san diego is the relatively large number of micro-breweries and wineries packed into a small region. it was rachel’s birthday this past weekend and thanks to her, we ended up booking a wine tour in temecula. i believe it was a first time for both of us (certainly me) and it ended up being one of the best decisions we’ve made. our trip landed us in 3 different wineries and an afternoon full of meats, cheese, breads and wines. we even bought a few bottles ourselves. i certainly recommend this to all my friends, but it can get a little crazy.

the edges of the world
torrey pines is one of my favorite places where i go to think, relax, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the ocean. sometimes life gets a little crazy you know? here are some pictures of some recent visits and i would absolutely recommend this place to everyone and anyone who has not visited.

life before we had to work
i had about a week left since the last post to hang out with family and do the things i wanted to do before returning to san diego. so in that time we (my sister, rachel and i) crossed over the bay bridge into the city. on the way we stopped at the jelly belly factory to see how belly jellies are actually made. our real destination, and probably one of my favorite places in the whole to visit, was the academy of sciences. this time they hosted some snakes and reptiles. have a look….

model pose…boom!

sleeping giants
i spent the past few days with rachel at a camp site just outside of crescent city, california. our goal: to see the sleeping giants of the redwood forrest. our trip took us to the edges of the northern california and oregon coast where we often crossed state lines to find food. the whole pumping your gas situation in oregon still confuses me.
i have never seen trees this big in my life and in some parts of the woods, i imagined the trees coming to life like the ents of the lord of the rings. call me a nerd, but it’s pretty cool when you come up to something wider than a school bus and has been growing for thousands of years. another interesting spot was the fern canyon where we told lost and jurassic park was filmed. once again, i imagined what it would be like if the black smoke thing was chasing us.

there and back again
i made a quick trip back down to southern california for an interview last week. my flights took me from reno to salt lake city where i stood for about an hour and finally to san diego. the ride there was nice and smooth with no problems. the trip back however left me in salt lake for one night where i almost didn’t wake up in time to catch my plane. i don’t think i will be flying with delta again any time soon.
